About Lucie
Having practiced yoga for over 15 years, I always knew that I wanted to teach and share the benefits I had gained from yoga with others.
In 2016 - whilst travelling the world - I completed my first Yoga Teacher Training Course in Goa, India. A challenging experience, I struggled with comparison and being ‘good enough’ to complete the course and I was having a lot of self doubt. On the final day of the course, a journaling exercise turned out to be the epiphany I didn’t know I needed. We were asked to write on a piece of paper, some words of wisdom for life and something we wanted to take away from this journey. As we left the yoga shala for the last time, we picked out a piece of paper from someone else, for ourselves - a mantra for our life going forward. Mine read ‘the one you are looking for is you’. And just like that I felt lighter, more confident, like I was coming home to myself - a very surreal moment and psychosomatic experience I will never forget. From then on I decided to live and breath this mantra and wanted to teach yoga to help people come back to themselves and know that ‘the one you are looking for is you’.
Fast forward to 2023, I found myself working in tech, sat behind a desk, no longer teaching yoga and feeling very disconnected to myself. It was the end of a long work week and I was feeling pretty hollow, so I decided to sign up for my second YTTC in Mallorca in an attempt to feel more connected to who I am/was. Just weeks out from embarking on my second YTTC, I found out I was pregnant (if you want the universe to laugh, tell it your plans). After some back and forth, I decided to go for it regardless and went on to complete my YTTC in Mallorca 13-16 weeks pregnant. It was one of the highlights of my life - I don’t remember a time I felt more ‘me’, more at one with myself, more supported by other amazing women around me.
Since becoming a mum earlier this year, I wanted to re-start my yoga teaching journey by giving back to the incredible mum community that has supported me during my post partum journey. Being a mum has also made me feel incredibly connected to my local community and the many benefits local community brings (something often quite hard to find in London).
My focus as a teacher is on the holistic nature of yoga and on community. I offer weekly classes in SE13 for the local community and host the occasional workshop in collaboration with other wellness practitioners and a ‘yoga for mums’ series. My classes are less about flexibility and acrobatics - something that has become the norm in Western culture - and more about the true origin of yoga; ‘Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self’ (Bhagavad Gita), a lifelong journey within. Whilst yoga asanas (poses) are a crucial part of yoga, they are not the whole part - breath work and meditation amongst other elements are just as important.. My classes therefore aim to reflect the ancient and ‘true’ meaning of yoga and as a result help you come back to yourself - in mind, in body, in breath.
I hope to see you in class! <3
